This will be the first review I have ever written regarding an anime. I feel compelled to write this because of how upset I geniunely am with how this anime ended. I will not go into detail on the story, the effects, and whatever else you, as a reader, may be looking for. Look at this solely as a rant about the characters and lack of character development especially dealing with the Lupin - the guy the MC (and us as an audience) is supposed to fall in love with.Even though I stated that I will not go into detail in regards to the story, I want to caution any of you reading with a SPOILER ALERT. Again, this is a rant that I feel I must get off my chest, because there was so much lost potential here.Let's begin. The anime itself is an interesting concept. The most I'll say about the story is that it is unique, but it does get a bit muddy throughout, and it is easy to get confused once past the 5th-6th episode. This is not where my rant lies. The anime introduces you to some amazing, unique, and rather cute characters. Each of them have their own charm and it is hard not to fall in love with a good handful. I know, this isn't sounding like much of a rant - bare with me. I have to say that I really appreciated the characters as a whole and I enjoyed watching them. I wanted more than what was given because they were just that interesting. This all does NOT apply to the main love interest. This is where my rant begins. The writers of Code: Realize did a decent job on characters such as Van and Saint (my two favorites, honestly) who are not meant to have romantic feelings for Cardia. They were cool, exciting, mysterious, etc. all what you would expect your MC to fall in love with! Well written characters that deserve to be seen as potential love partners. However, as a watcher, it's easy to feel cheated in a way because the MC is forced to fall for the most boring out of all the side characters you wish were suitors BECAUSE THEY DESERVE IT BASED ON HOW WELL THEY WERE WRITTEN. Honestly, it wouldn't be an issue for me that the main suitor was boring and lackluster if the side characters were the same. It's very clear, though, that more effort was put into Saint (who is barely in the anime compared to Van and the others) than the one who ultimately ends up with Cardia. I was so so so bored with Lumpin. I found myself skipping through majority of his dialogue. When it came down to his backstory, I couldn't have cared less. How could I? I wanted to know more about the other characters. I wanted more backstory on them. I wanted Cardia (the MC) to fall in love with someone with substance. Sadly, that wasn't Lumpin. Was this done on purpose? I don't know. I hated the fact that Cardia ended up with Lumpin SO MUCH that I literally bought the light novel. Yes. I bought it so I could choose a better ending that I feel the MC deserved, and that I, as a watcher, desrved. Maybe that was their goal all along. If so, clever! They got what they wanted out of me. I'm not even mad.I hope you enjoyed my 'review' if it can even be called that. Ask any questions regarding this anime or any other that I have watched. I'll be glad to answer them. Also, watch Violet Evergarden. If you do, have some tissues.Thank you.-Milk
